RUGBY, N.D. – UND researchers have abandoned an effort to test potential sites for storing nuclear waste in Pierce County.
County commissioners voted to oppose the $80 million dollar federal project and are also working on a permanent ban for similar projects in the future.
Residents and local officials were skeptical about repeated reports that no actual waste would be buried in the county.
Federal officials are looking into alternative sites.
